Definition
Pinned activities/workouts are planned sessions that you want Xert Forecast AI to treat as fixed anchors in your training plan. When you pin something, you’re telling Xert:
“This activity/workout is happening—build my plan around it.”
Pinned items are included as part of your forecasted training for that day (not “extra credit”).
What It Means
Pinning is one of the best ways to keep Forecast AI flexible while still prioritizing the riding you want to do—like:
- weekly group rides
- Zwift races or structured sessions you enjoy
- target tune-up races during a build
- key workouts from your coach
Once pinned, you can run Adapt Forecast and Xert will rebalance the rest of your plan around it. If the pinned activity is high intensity, Xert will try to schedule training so you’re fresh enough to perform well at the start of that session. Pinned activities appear darker in the Forecast Chart so you can quickly spot fixed “anchor” sessions.
How to Pin: In your Fitness Planner, select an activity/workout for a given day, Pin & Save your selection, then run Adapt Forecast to rebalance the plan around it.

Pinned vs Scheduled Activities
These two actions mean different things:
Pinned (part of the plan):
- The pinned workout/activity becomes the day’s main forecasted training target.
- Forecast AI adjusts surrounding days to support it (freshness, recovery, load balance).
Added with the “+” button (in addition to the plan):
- The activity is treated as extra training on top of what was forecasted for the day.
- Best for smaller additions like commutes, short spins, or unplanned extra rides.
Rule of thumb:
If it’s a “key session” you want the plan to respect → Pin it.
If it’s a small add-on that shouldn’t reshape the plan → Add it (+).
Where You’ll See It
- In the Fitness Planner (pinned indicator on the activity/workout)
- In your Forecast Chart as part of scheduled training
- In Adapt Forecast prompts (pinned items remain protected)
Common Misunderstandings
- Pinned doesn’t mean “locked workout steps.” It means the session is protected as a plan anchor; how you execute it is still up to you.
- Pinning doesn’t automatically change your plan until you Adapt Forecast. Pin first, then adapt.
- Pinned is for “this matters.” For commutes and small rides, use “+”.
