Definition
Xert Adaptive Training Advisor (XATA or ATA) is Xert’s smart training recommendation engine. It analyzes your recent training, current readiness, and goals to suggest the best workout or activity to do today.
XATA powers three training program options: Base–Build–Peak, Continuous Improvement, and Challenge.
What It Represents
XATA helps answer a simple question:
“What should I do today to keep progressing?”
Instead of following a fixed calendar plan, XATA adapts day-by-day based on what you’ve actually done recently and how ready you are to train. Recommendations can include structured workouts, as well as your saved outdoor rides or virtual rides that match today’s needs.
You don’t have to follow the top recommendation exactly. Xert will adjust tomorrow’s recommendations based on what you actually did today — which is why future sessions aren’t “locked in” weeks ahead like a traditional plan.
This makes it easier to do the rides and races you enjoy, while still training consistently — even when your schedule, motivation, or recovery changes.
How XATA Works
To recommend training, XATA considers:
- Your available training time and preferred duration
- Your Training Status — recommending higher intensity when you’re fresh, endurance when you’re tired, and recovery or rest when you’re very tired.
- Your Program Goals, including Improvement Rate
- Your selected Athlete Type / Focus
From there, XATA determines recommended Low, High, and Peak XSS targets for the day. It then ranks the available training options and shows the best matches near the top.
You can further refine recommendations using filters such as:
- Type (Workout, Outdoor, Virtual, etc.)
- Duration
- Difficulty
As new activities sync in — or you change your program settings — XATA automatically updates its recommendations.

Common Misunderstandings
- XATA is not a fixed plan — It adapts daily based on your training and recovery.
- It’s normal for recommendations to change throughout the day — It's normal for training status to change over the course of a day, so Xert is updating & adjusting your training recommendations based on your current readiness.
- You don’t have to do structured workouts only — Outdoor and virtual rides can count too! XATA and Magic Buckets are a powerful combination!
