What It Is
Locking an activity tells Xert:
“This Fitness Signature is correct at this point in time.”
When you lock an activity, Xert treats it as a fixed anchor in your progression - similar to a Breakthrough. Your Fitness Signature and relative training loads at that moment are preserved.
This prevents future edits to earlier activities from automatically changing that point in your fitness history.
What Locking Does
When you lock an activity:
- The Fitness Signature at that activity becomes fixed.
- Xert recalculates all activities after that date (“trickle-down” recalculation).
- Future edits to earlier activities will not override that locked signature.
- Your training loads from that point forward are based on the locked value.
The only ways a locked activity can change are:
- You manually unlock it
- You perform a full progression recalculation.
When You Should Lock an Activity
Locking is useful when:
- You’ve completed a lab test.
- You’ve validated your signature with maximal efforts.
- You are confident the signature is accurate.
- You want to protect that value from future recalculations.
It’s essentially a way of anchoring your model at a known-good point.
How to Lock an Activity
- Open the Activity Details page.
- Scroll beneath the MPA chart.
- (Optional) Adjust the Fitness Signature values if needed.
- Click Save.
Pressing Save will:
- Lock the signature at that activity.
- Trigger a trickle-down recalculation of all activities since that date.
No additional steps are required.
Common Questions
Do I need to manually change the signature before locking it?
No. Simply pressing Save will lock the existing signature.
Is locking the same as a Breakthrough?
It functions similarly in that it anchors your signature, but it does not necessarily require a maximal effort.
Should I lock every activity?
No. Lock only when you are confident in the signature value.
